If Mama Ain’t Happy Ain’t Nobody Happy by Lindsay O'Connor
Comment: Good for finding joy in life while dealing with life situations
Comment: Good, easy read on making the choice to rejoice
Comment: This was an enjoyable book that emphasized having a joyful attitude, being a good example for your kids,
and also helping to foster a loving/joyful environment in your home. The author had some fun stories about how God
provided situations in her life that challenged her to have a joyful attitude in spite of the circumstance. A good take home point for all of us
The Way They Learn by Cynthia Ulrich Tobias
Comment: Liked it but geared towards older children
12 Extraordinary Women by John Macarthur
Comment: Enjoyed the beginning lost enthusiasm as it went on
Shepherding Your Childs Heart by Ted Tripp
Comment: This was a very thought provoking book about how to effectively and biblically train and teach your children.
A lot of great discussion came from the content of this book. It provided a very helpful model regarding effective discipline/training.
Where some of the ladies were challenged was on the idea of using “the rod” (spanking) as a training technique. Great discussion came from it though
For Women Only by Shaunti Feldhahn
Comment: Very helpful to increase understanding of men and how they think
Comment: This was a helpful book for us to better understand our husbands and in turn helped us to better communicate and encourage them.
It is based off of the findings of a survey developed by the author. Some of the findings were new and challenging to the women in our group.
Great personal and growth in our marriage took place as a result of reading and discussing the concepts in this book
The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian
Comment: Excellent study on how to specifically pray for your children
Mothering Without Guilt
Comment: Average study. We had a difficult time getting everyone to participate
Boundaries with Kids by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend
Comment: Helpful for parents with older children (ages 5 and older). Cathey Basler has the DVD to go with it
The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace
Comment: This was a challenging book for many reasons. It was long (so by the end we were ready to be done).
The author focused a lot on submission to your husband (which challenged our ideas/actions). She tied in Biblical references (which was helpful).
Honestly, not everyone’s favorite book. Preview it before you choose it for your group
Experiencing Prayer with Jesus by Henry and Norman
Comment: This was a nice book that emphasized looking at Jesus as a model for how our prayer life. The reading was not too intense.
You may want a different book if you are looking for an intensive study on prayer
Changing Hearts/Changing Lives Model
Comment: Sharon Todd helped to develop and assemble this amazing training tool. This tool provides a biblical model of change that shows the connection
between our heart (root issues) and our actions (the fruit). I would recommend this for every group. It would be best if the person guiding the group had
some training in using the model to help facilitate others to effectively use it to produce heart change. The materials can be emailed/forwarded to you.
